Science and Technology (Prescribed Activities) Order, 2026

In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 of the Science and Technology Act, the National Commission for Science and Technology make the following Order—

1. Citation

This Order may be cited as the Science and Technology (Prescribed Activities) Order, 2026.

2. Prescribed activities

An activity listed in the Schedule shall not be carried out, except under the authority of a licence issued by the Commission.

3. Revocation G.N. 44/2024

The Science and Technology (Prescribed Activities) Order, 2024 is hereby revoked.

Schedule (para. 2)

List of prescribed activities

1.Research studies involving access, collection and transfer of plant and animal genetic material for research.
2.Research studies involving humans in the biomedical sciences.
3.Research studies in the social sciences and humanities.
4.Research studies in biotechnology.
5.Research studies involving genome editing in plants and animals.
6.Research studies in nuclear sciences.
7.Establishment of an institutional research ethics committee for clearing research involving humans.
8.Establishment of an institutional research ethics committee for clearing research involving animals.
9.Collection, storage, transfer and use of human samples for research.
10.Establishment of a technology transfer office.
